Heidi

Just read your latest blog entry. Interesting to read of thereception, the conference and afterwards from your perspective.

One note-- I work for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, not the Department of Fish and Wildlife, just in case someone goes searching for it on the internet. The USFWS is in the Department of the Interior.

Hi Heidi! We recently stayed at Swiftwater and when we checked out their blog I found a link to yours. We are westbounders, riding recumbent trikes. Your blog is excellent! Well written! Keep it up!

Shame on them. I guess the driving is about all you can leave to them. Way to stay on course, despite their abysmal customer service...except for the nice first bus driver.

You're at Emory and Henry!!!! That's the first college I attended and there are NO services! Isn't it lovely though? We had to travel by car 20 minutes to the nearest restaurant and 45 to the nearest movie theater.

Yea for friends! SOOO glad you are riding with buddies - I can feel your spirits lift!

Don't go sleeping near that lovely vine you mention at the beginning of this blog. It's likely kudzu and can grow so fast it will engulf you in the night (practically).

From Wikipedia: Kudzu is sometimes called gé gēn[1] (Chinese: 葛根), and (due to its out-of-control growth in the Southeastern United States) has earned such nicknames as the "foot-a-night vine", "mile-a-minute vine",[1] and "the vine that ate the South" (of the United States).[2]

I love Virginia - it's so beautiful. I lived there for three years right after I left my home in North Carolina. Good people, beautiful landscape, brimming with history.

I'm with you in spirit, and can't wait to clink spirits with you upon your much anticipated return!

Hugs,
Sarah

Hello Traveling Gal, I hope W.V. is being more scenic and friendly than it sounds through your words. Uncle Bob and I really enjoyed having you camp in at our home for a few days--wish I was in better shape so that you and I could have had some REAL fun together! Like your comments about the B&B's accommodations. In our NEW cabin/home I plan to have comfy mattresses and mushy down comforters, so that our guests feel like that could almost swim in the linen. Miss you already, Love Auntie C

Sara, I would have loved to land with family and loved ones in Charleston. I get these reminders sometimes about advanced planning. heh.

I have some ambitious riding to do in the next week, and after two weeks of no biking I just couldn't wait to get going. I'm reminded that there are some things a recently reassembled bike won't tell you until you put it to task (at least that's where my skill level is). Needless to say, I'm glad I took the option to climb the big hill out of Charleston right away. It clued me into the fact that my seat post was loose and the bolt on the clamp stripped.

All better.

Thank you!

Heidi,

Wishing I was in my hometown to welcome you and dreamy orange Trek. I do hope WV treats you well and if you stay in Charleston another day or so, let me know and I can hook you up with Dad and his wife Kristi. They live close-ish to your B&B.

Thanks for all the lovely reading and the dedication to your craft and your bike! I find it very very inspiring!

Cheers,
Sara
